This series was painted directly after my exhibition, during September 1985. They
were inspired by extracts from the writings of William sharp, writing under the
pseudonym of Fiona Macleod.

I am the lucky owner of six volumes of work by him with such titles as "The Winged
Destiny, studies in the Spiritual History of the Gael", which was my first purchase;
"The Dominion of Dreams, Under the Dark star", and "Where the Forest Murmurs".

He wrote at the end of the Victorian era, 1895 to 1910, maybe later, and was
published into the 1920's. Anything more I know little about as I have no
autobiographical account. Suffice to say I was moved by the powerful imagery of his
words to paint.

I include the extracts I wrote in my visual diaries at the time (excepting 'The White
Heron'),as inspiring the paintings illustrated here, the words whose power and beauty,
lingered on, conjured up these images and gave them form.
