I have written the odd thing for years, but of late it has become more important
to me. In the summer of 2001 I came upon a little book titled Basho, The narrow
road to the Deep North and other travel sketches.

Inspired by the form of prose setting the scene for linked haiku, I adopted a similar
format, writing my observations about the local area and experiences as they
happened, often with a strange synchronicity that I have noticed in all areas of life.

Some of the poems recording events and experiences are accompanied by images.
I like to think though that the words in themselves do this, form little word-images
or vignettes. I am aware how a poorly chosen image could easily detract from the
content of the words.

In other cases it is the actual sound of the words that form part of their choosing as
much as the meaning. With luck you get both. Sometimes these things have a way
of weaving themselves into their own pattern, other times it has to be worked at.

However, I hope you will take the time to read them, and that you enjoy doing so.
